CHAPTER 11

Rage rushed through his veins boiling angrily under his skin the moment he realized he’d been taken from his mate. His beloved. The most important person in the world to him. Cyprian practically flew down the steps of the third story, not stopping until his hand grabbed the handle of the door to the conference room.

He’d only made it halfway into the room before he was unable to move. The need to hold his mate, to keep him from whatever danger was before them was too great for him to just back down. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t budge. Worse, he hadn’t been looking directly at Mezner when Clotho had basically frozen him in place and he could only just barely see him in his periphery.

“Look,” the one who seemed to have managed to keep him in place said. “We are the Fates. The past.” She pointed to the one she’d called Atropos. “The present.” She waved toward herself. “And the future.” When she pointed to the one who had made him disappear from his mate’s side, his blood boiled and he could suddenly move his fingers.

It wasn’t much, but it told him he was going to find a way out of whatever she had done to him. Focusing on that, he continued to let his fury flow through him.

“The Fates,” she said again slowly as if they were all too stupid to understand her. “The ones who gave you this lovely man as your mate.”

Huh?

The need to hold Mezner was still paramount, but he was listening to her too. If these women were who they say they were, he owed them his life for giving him his mate, even if their tactics since showing up in his home had been more than a little high handed.

Gaining just a little more control over his body, Cyprian was able to move his eyes. If it had been possible, he would have shouted with joy when his gaze landed on his mate, who was apparently in the same predicament as the rest of them and unmoving, seemed to be safe from harm. But until he could hold…

“How did you do that?” Clotho exclaimed. Suddenly she was between him and Mezner, mostly blocking his view from the only person in the world who could calm his savage beast. The rage of being further separated from his mate surged through and suddenly he broke free of whatever she had done to them. Mostly.

He wasn’t back to his full speed or strength, but it was enough to move around until he had his mate in his arms, with Mezner’s head tucked against the curve of Cyprian’s neck. He was still angry at what these women had done since arriving, but his beast was no longer crazed now that he was curled around his mate right where he belonged.

“How…?” Atropos whispered in fear.

“That can’t be,” Lachesis practically shouted before striding over to them.

When her hand touched his arm, Cyprian growled menacingly. “Mine,” he snarled at her, turning his body to shield Mezner from them.
